What is Rare Escapes?

Rare Escapes is a marketplace platform that brings together the best adventure experiences throughout the UK to one place. We aim to connect thousands of active lifestyle travelers with all service providers, or hosts, for the most authentic and unforgettable experiences.

How can I find an experience in my preferred location?

Choose your destination  from the dropdown list in the top menu. We have escapes throughout the UK from Cornwall in the South all the way up to the Highlands of Scotland. 

How do I book an experience?

Once you have selected the dates and number of people, click Add to Cart to proceed with personal and payment details. Most experiences can be booked and confirmed instantly. Some experiences may require a prior response from the host, in such cases your host has 24 hours to confirm the booking. If the host accepts the request, the booking will be confirmed and payment will proceed as charged. Should the host decline the request or it expires the confirmation time, the booking will be considered as cancelled and payment will not be charged.

Can I get additional information prior to booking?

Sure! Click on 'Ask Question' button located at the bottom of every listing's page. Ask any questions or queries you may have. Once you are happy with the offering, you can proceed with booking. Keeping in touch with your host is quick and easy using the Rare Escapes direct messaging system.

What if I sent a message to the host but haven’t heard back?

Hosts will usually respond to messages and reservation requests within 24 hours. If you haven't heard back, we are so sorry!

Please contact  for help. We will try to get in touch with the host, or find another to provide an amazing experience for you. We take host responsiveness very seriously. Hosts who exhibit a pattern of not responding to messages will be removed from the Rare Escapes site.

Can I call a host before the experience?

Yes, only after you have made a confirmed booking. Personal contact information will not be released until you have made a confirmed reservation. At which point you will receive a confirmation via email. Keep in mind that we ask our users to keep their communication within the Rare Escapes site so that we can assist you if an issue arises.

Can I change/alter a booking that has already been confirmed?

We understand that plans may change sometimes. You may contact your host via Rare Escapes direct messaging system at all times to change your booking, subject to time and availability. In case for changes to date or time, your host may choose to offer an alternative time slot, or decline. Please keep in mind that some experiences may be governed by stricter cancellation policies.

How can I pay for my booking? How does Rare Escapes process payments?

You can pay with your credit or debit card. Your payment is processed securely using industry-leading encryption and fraud prevention tools. Note that we do not store your payment details. After payment is submitted, money is held securely in a trust account. The payment will be only sent to your host after completion of the service experience.

How much do I pay for a reservation?

All prices are transparent and clearly marked on every listing. A full price will be shown once the date and number of guests has been selected. All price listings shown are set by the hosts themselves and are not negotiable.

What is Rare Escapes cancellation policy?
Cancellation policy is pre-determined by the host and is mentioned in the description of every experience listing.
What if the host is late or does not show up?

We've got your back! If your host is a no show, we will refund you in full for the experience not provided. Kindly send an email to letting us know what (did not) happened. Please be prompt! It is in the best interest of all parties if refund requests are submitted within 24 hours of the commencement of experience. We take host reliability very seriously. Hosts who exhibit a pattern of cancelling or not showing up will be removed from the Rare Escapes site.

Can I get an invoice for my accounting?
We got you covered! Visit My Wallet from your host account dashboard. Click on DETAIL next to any booking for complete information on customer charges and net amount credited to your host wallet. Click on PRINT to download a pdf file. Triplist encourages accurate and transparent accounting at all times!
Can I list more than one service?

Yes, there is no limit for the number of services listed as long as they qualify. However repeated listings with only slight difference are not allowed and if found in excess, your profile will be suspended until further notice.

Do you charge anything for a listing?

No, Rare Escapes does not charge anything for listing of your services however we do charge a commision for the processing of succesful enquiries. More info can be found once signed up. 

How and when will I get paid?

Rare Escapwes will arrange a bank transfer to your bank account specified in Payout Settings. Please refer to MY WALLET in your host account dashboard for total net balance available for withdrawal. We will automatically transfer the money to you after the activity has taken place. 

How do I contact my customer?

Go to My Bookings in your host dashboard. Click on DETAIL next to confirmed booking of interest. Click on MESSAGE CUSTOMER to start communicating with your guest. Complete chat history is automatically updated under Messages section in your host dashboard. Make sure to check regularly!

How do I list my service?
  • Click on ‘BECOME A HOST’ red button (top right), enter details and login to Host dashboard. Upload a personal headshot photo to represent your host profile. Travelers will be communicating with you directly via Triplist messaging and will appreciate to see a photo of a real person.
  • From Host dashboard click on 'ADD LISTING' and complete Activity Intro page, must click SAVE button! Write a good Activity Name for your experience listing. This will create a good first impression and encourage bookings.
  • Photos & Videos, Upload up to 10 real-time high quality photos to show what travelers can expect to see when they book with you. Uploading photos of your team and activity experience is a fantastic idea! 
  • Describe the experience via Activity Details. In Highlights; include 2-4 sentences about why travelers should book you, what it is most special or unique. In Description; write in full detail about what to expect, the more engaging content the better. We recommend including 1-2 paragraphs about the host providing the experience too. Travelers would appreciate knowing what to expect! Don’t forget about Inclusions and Requirements, don’t leave these sections blank as they will appear on your listing's page.
  • Map. Add the exact location of your business and help travelers find you. After a booking is confirmed, you can forward more direction instructions if necessary to guests via Triplist messaging. 
  • Availability. Manually input day to day dates, or choose daily / weekly if your service runs on regular for the month.
  • Please note that you can only set availability for one month at a time. Click Next to do the same for the next month.
  • Add-ons. Any extras that complement your service experience can be added here. Such as transfers, additional equipment, etc.
  • Each service should be listed separately to avoid confusion. After we approve your first listing you will be looking to create more beautiful listings, thats for sure!
  • Be Original! The more engaging and unique your listing and the more awesome your photos are; the more interest, partnership opportunities and bookings it will receive from travelers and locals alike.
How do I start receiving booking requests?

Always keep your calendar and prices up-to-date, to receive bookings from travelers. When a booking request is received, you only have 24 hours to accept or decline it. If you do not respond within 24 hours, the booking request will automatically be cancelled. Alternatively, do note that you may also chose an instant booking calendar when creating your listing. In such case, the booking will be immediately confirmed upon payment by the traveler. You will receive a notification by email and SMS once the guest confirmed the booking.

How long does it take for my listing to be approved?

Once you complete filling in all details of your listing, the Rare Escapes team will review it and be in touch within 24 hours, either with approval or editing suggestions.

How much commission do you charge?
Rare Escapes will accept a fee from each successful sale of service. The fee will automatically correspond to the price of your listing .

What about the Cancellation Policy?

You must choose a most suitable Cancellation Policy during the listing creation process. Note that Rare Escapes collects payment from travelers on your behalf, hence you will not be required to manage any cancellations or refunds personally. If a booking is cancelled, you will be notified under Cancellations section in your account dashboard. You can learn more about different cancellation policies here.

Who can qualify as a host?

We accept eco-friendly hosts on selected island destinations who offer fun, healthy, active, wellness and recreational services, or experiences for travelers and locals alike. Host can either be a freelance individual or established business.
